200kms north of Alice is an oasis in the desert: Athelle Outback Hideaway. Easily accessible on the red dirt road by 2WD. What a great place for an overnight getaway!
One of my highlights was feeding the rescue farm animals, I loved seeing the camel living his best life with his cow friends.
The night was chilly for May, but our cabin was cozy and warm. The communal fire with other guests, some of whom were on their way to stay with us at Wintersun, and the owner sharing his daily life on the station was perfect. If only I remembered the marshmallows.
We loved watching the gorgeous sunset followed by a million stars above. Overall a perfect stay!! I gave a 5 million star review.
For those with furry friends, the campground at Athelle is pet-friendly.
It’s the start of our season and with Alice and it’s surrounds still green and lush, it’s the perfect year to explore. Get out there and support the regional and outback towns this year. You only live once!!
